Retiree Stories

Monique and Harry Games
Newcomers, Penticton, British Columbia

Monique and Harry Games are a retired couple who moved to Campbell River from Penticton. They came here to help their daughter look for a house and ended up moving here themselves. They came to be close to their daughter, and to enjoy the attractions of Campbell River. Harry enjoys the waterfront and the pier. Monique enjoys the climate, the college, and the volunteering opportunities.

When asked why he wanted to stay in Campbell River, Harry immediately answered "The pier. It's great. You can stay as long as you want. You can get your breakfast and all the fishing gear you need at the little store." Monique also enjoys the waterfront and they have a wonderful view of it from their small house. She likes the climate because it is neither too hot, nor too cold.

Monique is active at the college. She has found it very helpful in her pursuit of a degree. She is currently taking English classes and plans to get into math and science next year.

Monique is a very active volunteer and has found many organizations to be a part of. She helps at the Tidemark Theatre, which she says is a very nice place, and the hospital. One thing she really likes is the "outstanding cable television." It's much cheaper than in Penticton and you get more channels. You can volunteer at CRTV and it's "like a little community."

Besides the pier, college, and volunteering, the Games appreciate the beautiful views, climate, and cheap real estate. They are happy to be retiring in a community that is so accommodating to their interests of fishing, volunteering and further education.
