Public
Health Nursing provides health promotion, disease prevention,
intervention and support services to women, children, youth and families
living in the Campbell River area. Services are provided to individuals,
families, groups and communities in homes, schools, health units and
community settings.
Hearing
Clinic staff work with individual clients, professionals, and
agencies to identify children and eligible adults who are hard of hearing/deaf
and provide or link individuals with follow-up services as needed.
Community
Nutrition Services work closely with other professionals, institutions
and agencies, as well as community groups to advocate, promote and support
healthy eating and active living in the community. Programs are planned
and delivered using health promotion and primary prevention principles.
Speech
and Language Program provides consultation, assessment, therapy,
and counselling for individuals with communication disorders and their
families.
Dental
Health Services
offers the services of dental hygienists and certified dental assistants
for preventative and educational programs aimed at children and other
selected groups.
Public
Medical Health Officer
- Under the direction of the Chief Medical Health Officer, the Vancouver
Island Health Authority offers a variety of services designed to enhance
your overall well-being. The Medical Health Officer is responsible for
health protection, communicable disease control, and emergency preparedness.
Health
Protection
safeguards the health and safety of the public through enforcement of
health protection legislation and health education. Programs include:
Food Protection Program, Water Protection (drinking water and recreational
water), Land Use Program (sewage disposal and subdivision) Public Health
Engineering Services.
Community
Care Facilities Licensing ensures health and safety standards
are met in child and adult care facilities by inspection and licensing,
complaint investigation, education, and guidance.
Environmental
Assessment
provides information and advice to the public about Air Quality, Housing
and Environmental Health, Hazardous Chemicals and Materials, West Nile
Virus, Pesticides.
Disease
and Environmental Surveillance manages
general communicable disease control
Tobacco
Reduction Program coordinates education and enforcement activities
for the Clean Air Bylaw, the Provincial Tobacco Sales Act & the
Federal Tobacco Act. This Program is also responsible for initiating
implementation of the BC Ministry of Health programs bc.tobaccofacts
& Kick the Nic 2000.
Responds directly to the community by providing resources, information
on prevention and cessation as well as acting on public complaints.
North
Island Liver Service a
is,[cteam of nurse clinicians and counsellors working in association
with clients, family physicians and local liver specialists. The goal
is to provide integrated services for prevention, education, treatment
and support related to viral hepatitis. Located at the Campbell River
Hospital. 250-286-7005
Rehabilitation Services
Adult Rehabilitation In-Patient Services include
Orthopedic, geriatric, respiratory, surgical, medical, neurological
physiotherapy and occupational therapy services available at Campbell
River Hospital from physiotherapy and occupational therapists. Psychiatric
occupational therapy services available at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Adult Rehabilitation Out-Patient Services
- Pre and post-op orthopedic surgery physical and occupational therapy,
WCB Hand Program, ergonomics, splinting and orthotics, arthritis education,
wheelchair/seating, respiratory rehabilitation classes, UVB for psoriasis,
diabetic education, falls prevention, amputee and neurological rehabilitation.
Continuing Care - Physical, occupational
and speech therapy available to home-bound individuals requiring continuing
rehabilitation services in the community.
The Campbell River Lifeline Program is
operated by the Comox Valley Lifeline Society - an emergency response
system that links a subscriber to 24-hour assistance at the push of
a button. Potential subscribers include arthritis victims, those with
cardiovascular disorders, people with disabilities, those living alone
and anyone medically at risk.
