Why Retire Here

It’s the People...

One of the best reasons to retire in Campbell River lies with the people you will meet here. Campbell River is a vibrant and growing town with a strong community spirit. Many of us immigrated from elsewhere in B.C. and from every province across Canada. Campbell River is a seasonal home to many Californians as well as other U.S. and international citizens. This may explain why you will find a pioneering spirit and friendliness here.

Friendly people are part of the reason that the pace of living in Campbell River is a little slower than the hustle of big cities. Another factor is perhaps attributable to the rhythm of the sea or the peacefulness of the surrounding forests. We are never far from the influences of nature. There is time to relax and get to know your neighbours.

Many visitors remark on the courtesy they experience from individuals and businesses alike. Visitors and new residents are pleasantly surprised with the lack of traffic congestion and a favourite boast of a retiree from Toronto is that our phone book "is only 50 pages and the longest stoplight in town is usually only 4 car lengths."

Campbell River has its pioneering families and also its share of celebrities. A variety of famous authors, athletes, environmentalists, engineers, musicians, poets, painters, actors and artists call Campbell River home. We have an excellent museum where you can explore the history of Campbell River and the surrounding area.

Residents take pleasure in welcoming newcomers to this community. Campbell River is a very supportive community. A wag comments that "we have a support group for every known human and animal affliction." You can find some of these links at Campbell River Community Network. The size and number of these groups speaks eloquently about our community spirit. Campbell River has a very active and highly successful Volunteer Center.

The Red Hat Society is Thriving in Campbell River With 4 Active Chapters!
Yes, as a matter of fact, there is fun and friendship after 50. The opportunity to embrace middle age and the years beyond with joie-de-vivre, grace and a sense of “silliness” appeals to many women who have devoted the first part of their lives to careers and families. If you would like more information regarding the Red Hat Society -- joining a chapter or forming your own -- please call Evelyn Brendeland at 923-6987 or Arlene Harris at 923-3827.
